Blackhawks prospect camp - day 1 in pictures

The Chicago Blackhawks opened their 2011 Prospect Camp today at Johnny's West in Chicago. I'll have reviews of Prospect Camp after the weekend; you can read my preview of Prospect Camp over at TheCheckingLine.com.

For now, I was only able to get to JW for part of today's schedule -- here's pictures from day 1, groups 3 and 4.

Mark McNeill, Chicago's first draftee of 2011 (1st round, 18th overall). McNeill has expressed a desire to qualify for the Blackhawks this year, and his strong play in camp shows it.

Ben Youds lines up a shot on Cal Heeter. Heeter had a good performance in last year's Prospect Camp and has been playing at Ohio State.

The Hayes brothers, Jimmy and Kevin, flanking Joe Lavin

The Hayes have played at Boston College; older brother Jimmy will be in Rockford in the fall.

Mark Nemec and others from group 4 preparing to skate

Phillip Danault (2011 Draft, 1st round, 26th overall)

Joe Lavin

Mirko Hoefflin - somebody left an 'E' off his jersey

Kent Simpson

Very wide butterfly. Simpson was impressive in last year's Prospect Camp, too.

  1. Great pics, thanks for sharing. I'm hoping to be out there for Sunday's skate.

  2. Glad to see that Heeter continues to make such a positive impression on Chicago, even if it means us Buckeye fans might lose him early. Awesome pictures, btw!

  3. Awesome pics! What was the crowd like? Am I going to have to line up at 7am to get in for the scrimmage on Sat??

  4. @Aubrey, @G8K33P3R -- thanks for compliments. :)

@Anon - Sat/Sun crowds will probably be full, but if you intend to stay all day (and therefore might want a seat!) I would recommend arriving 9:30 or earlier.
